ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Foreign Office on Thursday confirmed that the 13th Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) Summit would take place in Pakistan on March 1, 2017.

In the weekly briefing in Islamabad, the Foreign Office Spokesperson Nafees Zakaria said that having its roots in Regional Cooperation for Development (RCD), the 13th ECO Summit would be preceded by the meeting of Senior Officials from ECO Member States on February 27. Later, ECO Council of Foreign Ministers would meet in Islamabad on February 28.

The RCD was a multi-governmental organization which was originally established in 1964 by Iran, Pakistan and Turkey. The ECO has now been expanded and comprises 10 members.

The ECO Summit 2017 is expected to review the state of affairs of Economic Cooperation Organization in the light of the new and emerging global and regional circumstances, and agree on the course of actions ECO should follow in expanding regional economic cooperation among its member states.
