ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The newly-appointed Director General Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Lieutenant General Naveed Mukhtar held his first meeting with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in Islamabad on Friday.
During the meeting, they discussed overall security situation in the country.
The prime minister felicitated Lt General Naveed Mukhtar on assuming the charge of the ISI. He also appreciated the role of ISI in the war against terrorism.
Lt General Naveed Mukhtar took over as the new ISI Chief on December 19, replacing Lt General Rizwan Akhtar who had been appointed as the President of National Defence University (NDU) Islamabad.
Prior to his appointment as the DG ISI, Lt General Naveed Mukhtar was posted as Corps Commander Karachi.
Naveed Mukhtar was commissioned in the Armoured Corps regiment in 1983. He is a graduate of the Command and Staff College Quetta, NDU Islamabad and War Course USA. He had commanded a Mechanised Division.
Till December 7, Lt General Mukhtar had been serving as Corps Commander of Karachi. He was promoted to the rank of lieutenant general and posted to the army’s Corps V in September 2014.
Lt General Mukhtar possesses a vast experience in the field of intelligence. He had also headed the counterterrorism wing of the ISI in Islamabad.
