ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Annual General Meeting (AGM) of National Press Club (NPC) will be held in Islamabad on Wednesday (December 21, 2016).

The meeting will begin at 11.30 am at the Conference Hall in NPC during which the participants will review the working of sitting governing body while discussion about new projects will also take place.

The NPC General Secretary Imran Dilhon will present the performance report and brief members about the work done by the governing body during the year 2015-16 while the NPC Finance Secretary Ishaq Chaudhry will present the financial report.

The NPC President Shakeel Anjum will answer the questions and present four amendments.

Likewise, constitution of editorial and governing body for FM Radio, increase in fees for insurance of members, establishment of accountably and scrutiny committees, declaring audit of NPC expenditures from an authentic audit firm as compulsory are also part of agenda of NPC AGM meeting.agm-of-npc

It may be mentioned that AGM of NPC takes place once in a year where sitting body of National Press Club submits its audit report as well as report about development works and other activities.

Being a representative body of journalists, the National Press Club has constantly been making endeavors for the welfare of Journalist Community such as a ‘’Endowment Fund” was announced earthier this year for journalists’ families.

Under the “Endowment Fund”, orphans and widows of journalists are provided different health and education facilities.

The NPC also organizes journalist safety workshop to sensitize the media persons about the threats they have been facing while performing their professional duties in the field or at their respective media outlets.

Earlier this year, an agreement was reached between the NPC and Rawalpindi Institute of cardiology (RIC) according to which, the RIC will provide free treatment and investigation for the members of NPC and their families related to heart and other cardiovascular disease in the hospital. The NPC also organizes free medical camps for journalists on regular basis.

In order to let journalists improve their skills and knowledge through book reading facility, a Library has also been established at the National Press Club. Moreover, National Book Foundation’s (NBF) Readers Club membership are also being given to the journalists.

Not only the NPC strives for the betterment of Journalist Community but it also ties to make sure that journalists and their families fully enjoy their life; therefore, the Club organizes grand music nights, various festivals and programs, and screening of Pakistan Cricket Team matches among other activities for the journalists and their families.

In the memory of martyred journalists, a “Martyred Journalists Memorial” has also been set up at the NPC which is about to be officially inaugurated very soon.

Besides, the National Press Club also setup lush green lawns and gardens in its premises to ensure beautification, apart from providing subsidized food items to the journalists.
