ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Saturday was appointed as the 16th Chief of Army Staff (COAS) of Pakistan Army whereas General Zubair Mahmood Hayat was appointed as the Chairman Joint Chief of Staff Committee (CJCSC).

President Mamnoon Hussain on the advice of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif promoted them to the Rank of General from Lieutenant Generals and made their appointments for key posts.

The newly-promoted four-star generals will take new Charge on November 29 when General Raheel Sharif and General Rashad Mehmood will retire as the COAS and CJCSC respectively.

General Qamar Javed Bajwalt-general-qamar-javed-bajwa

General Qamar Javed Bajwa was commissioned in 16 Baloch Regiment on October 24, 1980. He is graduate of Canadian Forces Command and Staff College, (Toronto) Canada, Naval Post Graduate University, Monteray ( California) USA, National Defence University (NDU), Islamabad.

He has been an instructor at School of Infantry and Tactics, Quetta, Command and Staff College, Quetta and NDU. He has also been Brigade Major of an Infantry Brigade and Chief of Staff of Rawalpindi Corps. He has commanded 16 Baloch Regiment, an Infantry Brigade and has commanded Infantry Division in Northern Areas (Commander FCNA). He has also commanded Pakistan Contingent in Congo. He has commanded Rawalpindi Corps, and is presently Inspector General Training and Evaluation at General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi.

General Zubair Mahmood Hayatlt-general-zubair-mahmood-hayat

General Zubair Mahmood Hayat was commissioned in Artillery Regiment on October 24, 1980. He is graduate of Fort Sill Oklohoma, USA, Command and Staff College Camberlay United Kingdom and National Defence University, Islamabad.

He has wide experience of command, staff and instructional appointments. He has commanded an artillery regiment, mechanized division artillery, an infantry Brigade and an Infantry Division. He has been Adjutant at Pakistan Military Academy (PMA), Brigade Major of an Infantry Brigade, Army and Air adviser at Pakistan embassy in UK. He has also been Chief of Staff of a strike Corps, Private Secretary to COAS and Director General Staff Studies Directorate at GHQ. He has also held the appointment of Director General Strategic Plan Division (SPD). He has commanded 31 Corps Bahawalpur and is presently Chief of General Staff at GHQ.
