ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki Moon has once again offered his good offices to facilitate dialogue between Pakistan and India for a negotiated settlement of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute.
In a letter written to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, the UN secretary general deplored the loss of life in Indian-held Kashmir and hoped that all efforts will be made to avoid further violence.
His statement came in response to a letter to Ban Ki Moon from Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in which he had apprised the UN secretary general about the grave situation in Indian Occupied Kashmir where the large-scale violations of human rights were being committed by Indian security forces.
The UN secretary general also appreciated the continued commitment of Pakistan to the peaceful resolution of the Kashmir dispute for the sake of regional peace and security.
Ban Ki Moon said that the United Nations remains convinced that it is only through dialogue that the outstanding issues between Pakistan and India including on Kashmir can be addressed.
