MUZAFFARABAD, Pakistan: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) Masood Khan has been elected on Tuesday as the new President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).
Masood Khan received 42 votes whereas his main rival Pakistan People’s Party’s (PPP) Chaudhry Latif Akbar secured six votes.
The AJK presidential election was held at the Lodging Hall of AJK Legislative Assembly in Muzaffarabad from 10:00 am to 03:00 pm today during which members of Legislative Assembly and Azad Jammu and Kashmir Council exercised their right of vote to elect the new President.
In a meeting with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on August 15 in Islamabad, Masood Khan said that he would work for the well-being and betterment of the people of AJK and would help in highlighting the just freedom cause of the Indian Occupied Kashmir.
Last month, PML-N formed its government in Muzaffarabad after the party won the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly elections held on July 21 by bagging 31 seats.
Later Raja Farooq Haider Khan was nominated as the AJK Prime Minister who took oath of his Office on July 31.
