NewsPFUJ stands to protect constitution by filing petition in Supreme Court

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Journalistic community headed by Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) has taken a position to protect the Constitution against certain elements, demanding imposition of Martial Law in the country by abrogating and suspending supreme law of the land. PFUJ stands to protect constitution by filing petition in Supreme Court

A Constitutional petition under article 184 (3) of the 1973 Constitution of Islamic Republic of Pakistan has been filed for initiation of proceeding under article 6 of the Constitution for registering a case against Member of National Assembly (MNA) and Pakistan Awami League (PML) Chief Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed and an anchor person namely Dr Danish.

The petition has sought registration of a case against Sheikh Rasheed and Dr Danish for High Treason because both were allegedly involved in sedation and abetment for abrogating the Constitution and inviting Pakistan Army to clamp martial Law in the country by suspending the Constitution.

The petition also added Muhammad Kamran, the President of “Move on Pakistan” as respondent because this political party installed hoardings and banners almost all over the country requesting the Chief of Pakistan Army (COAS) General Raheel Sharif to suspend democracy in the country and take over by clamping Martial Law in Pakistan.

The petition has been filed by Afzal Butt the former President PFUJ and National Press Club (NPC).

The petition cited some actions of former military rulers including the issue of disappeared persons and killing of former Chief Minister Balochistan Sardar Akbar Khan Bugti those had adverse consequences over the social fabrics of the country.

The petition is being considered as a serious attempt from journalistic community to snub strata of journalism that is allegedly supporting anti-democratic elements in the country and trying to seduce Pakistan Army to take over the country as it had been doing in the past.
