KARACHI, Pakistan: Five worshipers martyred and many other injured on Friday due to sudden collapse of heavy iron-shed which was installed along with the roof of two-storeyed Masjid-e-Usman Ghani at Landi Kotal area of North Nazimabad in Karachi.

The police and rescue sources said that the incident took place when most of the people had left the mosque after offering Namaz-e-Jumma while few were busy in offering Sunnah prayers.roof of Masjid-e-Usman Ghani collapsed

The martyred were identified as Abdul Rafay, Haji Akhter, Faisal Yaqoob, Muhammad Saleem and Humayoon Rabbani, the police sources said.

The injured were shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where Senior Director Health Dr Muhammad Ali Abbasi told media that 10 of the injured were brought to the hospital. He said that one of the injured is serious while four were out of danger.

Dr Abbasi said that all the injured received wounds on their heads and upper parts of the bodies. He said that four of the injured had succumbed to injuries ahead of reaching hospital.

PM grieved over loss of lives in mosque roof collapse

In a statement, Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif expressed deep grief and sorrow over the loss of lives when the roof of a mosque collapsed in Karachi.

The prime minister prayed to the Almighty to bless the departed souls with eternal peace and grant courage to the bereaved families to bear the irreparable losses.
