ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Monday inaugurated ‘Safe City Project’ in Islamabad which will be helpful in maintaining law and order situation and improving traffic system in the Federal Capital.

In his address while inaugurating the project, the minister said that Islamabad Safe City Project was need of the hour.

“It will serve as a role model for other parts of the countries and will be replicated in other cities,” he said.

The minister said that certain vested groups and countries are out to sabotage China Pakistan Economic Corridor project (CPEC). However he added, no power can undermine this mega project as people of two countries, their civilian and military leadership are committed to take it forward.

The interior minister said that the CPEC is no longer a dream but is turning into a reality. He said that both China and Pakistan are long standing friends and their destinies are intertwined.

Under the Rs126 million Islamabad Safe City Project, 1,950 surveillance cameras have been installed at different points of the Federal Capital.

The project’s command and control centre has been established in a bomb proof building at H-11 sector which will monitor important buildings, entry and exit points, roads, commercial centres and a sizable portion of the city’s residential areas.

Earlier, addressing a passing out parade of police officers at Police Line in Islamabad, the interior minister said that the Federal Capital will be made crime free city and in this regard, police personnel have significant role to play.

The minister said that overall security situation has improved in the country over the last three years. He said that the credit for this goes to security and intelligence agencies of the country.

The federal minister said that recruitments in police department are being made on merit and vowed to ensure transparency in recruitment for Rapid Response Force as well.

“I congratulate newly recruited police personnel. They have been recruited on merit,” Nisar said.

Chaudhry Nisar said that development in every sector is possible with justice and transparency.

“Now it’s your responsibility to provide protection to citizens,” the minister added.
