Health239 patients of AIDS, 9747 of HIV in Sindh

KARACHI, Pakistan: As many as 239 patients of AIDS and 9747 patients of HIV were tested to be positive in Sindh, In-charge AIDS Control Programme Dr Sikandar Iqbal said.

In his address at a seminar organized by Sindh AIDS Control Program (SACP) on the topic of “Prevention from AIDS and its Treatment”, Dr Sikandar Iqbal said that 5407 patients have been registered for treatment.

Dr Sikandar said that 2533 AIDS HIV patients are being provided medicines free of cost. He said that in Sindh HIV Testing Centres have increased to 23 and these centres provide testing and diagnosing facilities of HIV to 1,61,800 persons.

He said that through Service Delivery Packages, the AIDS endangered groups, between the age of 15 to 45 years, have been motivated for diagnosis and treatment of disease.

He said that at present 31 HIV and AIDS positive patients are in Nawabshah.

Dr Sikandar Iqbal disclosed that in order to prevent from AIDS, its treatment and creating awareness among masses, committees headed by Deputy Commissioner are formed under the auspices of District Health Department.
