ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) will have its own Educational television channel later this year to provide media-based academic support to its students and promoting online distance learning home and abroad.

Necessary homework to this effect has been completed and now they will formally approach to Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) for its permission.

This was stated by Vice Chancellor AIOU, Dr. Shahid Siddiqui while talking to APP on Monday.

It is the part of the University’s consistent efforts of providing quality and accelerated education to their students through smart use of electronic network.

Institute of Educational Technology (IET)’s department is playing a pro-active role for arranging media and technology-based academic programs for the students’ benefit.

A web-channel of the University is already working successfully and number of its beneficiaries has exceeded in thousands.

He appreciated Director IET, Mir Mukhtar Ahmed Talpur and his team for their efforts in preparing multimedia academic programmes and expanding FM’s radio network in the country. Now FM radio is going live from the main campus from 8 am to 9 pm, with variety of educational programs.

He said the AIOU’s FM’s radio services will be available in seven regional offices across the country by the end this year. They are also in process of launching short-courses for the media’s professionals.

A comprehensive strategy has also been prepared for online-conducting of PhD and Phil programmes. Students will get electronic version of their study material. Assignments will also be received and evaluated accordingly, he added.
