ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The first phase of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) comprising the energy projects would be completed by December 2017.

“These early harvest projects being completed under the CPEC will bring a rapid change in socio-economic scenario of the country,” a senior official in the Ministry of Planning, Development and Reforms said here on Monday.

The Chines companies are working day and night for timely completion of energy generation projects to generate about 10,000 MW electricity.

These companies are also working on the improvement of the transmission and distribution lines which are currently unable to bear the load.

No significant planning and work had been carried out to replace transmission lines for the last many years.

These companies are also working on the gas pipelines to provide cheap resources for electricity generations besides work is also under progress in many hydel power generations projects and coal based power plants.

About 6,600 MW coal based power plants would be installed at Thar to tap the huge coal reserves of the area and make the area as power capital of the country, he added.

The CPEC would bring a massive change in the lives of the malnourished population of Thar area besides starting economic activities to improve quality of life.

Under the CPEC, Western routes are being developed to bring underdeveloped areas of Balochistan at par the developed areas.

The peace, stability and social harmony are vital for economic development and positive things are happening as peace restored in the tribal areas.
