NewsPakistan cricket: Imran Khan for playing 'correct combinations’

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The legendary cricketer-turned politician Imran Khan said on Thursday that Pakistan cricket team need to play ‘correct combinations’ as it is enriched with ‘enough talent’ but yet unable to succeed.

His remarks came in twitter after Pakistan lost to Bangladesh by five wickets last night at Dhaka and eventually made an exit from the T20 Asia Cup without even reaching the Final.

“Even with the current team, if the correct combinations are played there is enough talent for success,” Imran Khan who is now the Chairman of Pakistan’s main opposition party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) said on Thursday.

The defeat at the hand of first India and now low-ranked Bangladesh caused a huge disappointment among the Pakistanis who expressed their anger at the national team and demanded an accountability of players and officials.

Imran Khan described the unceremonious exit of the Pakistan team from the tournament as justified and understandable because the nation is full of youngsters with potential talents but yet facing defeat again and again.

“Pakistani cricket fans anger at unceremonious exit of Pak team From T20 Asia Cup is understandable as our nation is oozing with talent,” Imran Khan said.

The PTI Chairman also questioned the credibility of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) whose officials including the Chief, according to Imran Khan, were not appointed on merit.

“But how can we expect this PM to select PCB chief on merit when all orgs are being headed by cronies/ppl rewarded for services to Sharifs,” Imran said.

“However, this talent can only be polished if PCB becomes an institution built on merit, incl selection of its Head purely on merit.”

Moscow says it won’t allow US to silence UNSC on Israeli violence against Palestinians Monitoring Desk: Russian envoy in United Nations Vasily Nebenzya said that the UN Security Council should bring peace, stability and prosperity to the Middle East and Russia would not allow United States to silence UNSC over the issue of Gaza crisis. According to TASS news Agency, Nebenzya said that Moscow will continue to call for an end to violence against Palestinians and will not allow the US to muzzle the UN Security Council as Washington seeks to support Israel's operation in Gaza. "We will continue to stand firmly for ending violence against the Palestinians.
