PESHAWAR, Pakistan: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Elementary and Secondary Education Muhammad Atif Khan said on Tuesday that the provincial government will spend Rs 2738 million on provision of free text books to the students of grade I to XII and ensure timely provision to every student of the province at all cost.

This, he stated while addressing the inaugural ceremony of free text books for year 2016-17 at Text Book Board Peshawar.

The ceremony was also addressed by chairman Text Book Board Peshawar.

The minister was informed that the Board has published 46479482 text books at a cost of Rs 2738 million.

On the occasion, the Minister said that PTI-led provincial government had introduced good governance in all sectors and ensured merit and transparency for the purpose.

He added that the government surrendered all its discretionary powers to ensure transparency in letter and spirit.

He said that the focus is being given on upgradation of the system, adding that the government had recruited 25,000 teachers without any favour. He reiterated that there was no place for inefficient and ‘safarashi’ people in any government sector.

The minister emphasized the need for including such activities in the syllabus that could enhance creativity among the students.

He said that play areas for students would be made for students in 10,000 primary schools, while under the new policy, play area was made compulsory for all new primary school.

Later, the minister distributed free text books among the students of different schools.
