ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Pakistan on Thursday called for early resumption of talks between the foreign secretaries of India and Pakistan saying that no date has yet been finalized for the interaction.

In a weekly press briefing here, Foreign Office spokesman Muhammad Nafees Zakria said the date for foreign secretary level talks should be finalized as early as possible after the policy statement from Indian side not to link the bilateral talks with the progress on Pathankot incident.

He told media that both the sides were in contact on the matter.

Regarding the arrest of Kashmiri students at Jawaharlal Nehru University, the Spokesman said the people of Kashmir have never accepted the unfair trial of Afzal Guru.

He said time and again, Pakistan had expressed concerns over the incidents of atrocities with Kashmiri people by the Indian troops. Pakistan had also appropriately raised the Kashmir issue at international forums, he added.

To a question, the Foreign Office spokesman said the efforts were being made to bring Afghan Taliban back to the table. The next meeting of Quadrilateral Coordination Group on Afghanistan was scheduled to be held on February 23 that would review the efforts made so far on Afghan peace talks.

He reiterated Pakistan’s principled stance on Syrian crisis saying that Pakistan desired an amicable solution to the issue.

Pakistan also supported the efforts towards countering terrorism including the establishment of 34-member Saudi-led coalition, he added.

Nafees Zakria also denied the existence of Daesh in Pakistan and recalled the efforts made by Pakistan to counter terrorism and extremism.

Responding to another question, the spokesman said the United States had repeatedly expressed complete satisfaction over the security of Pakistan’s nuclear arsenals.
