PakistanNation, armed forces fully capable of countering terrorism: President Mamnoon

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: President Mamnoon Hussain on Wednesday said the Pakistani nation and the armed forces were fully capable of countering internal and external threats including terrorism from the country.

“I warn the terrorists and their sponsors to have no doubt that the nation and the armed forces will not rest till the elimination of last terrorist from the country’s soil,” the President said at convocation ceremony held here at the National University of Science and Technology (NUST).

The event was held for award of Bachelor of Military Arts and Sciences degrees to the cadets of Pakistan Military Academy’s 126th and 127th batches, and also to the students of NUST Institute of Peace and Conflict Studies.

President Mamnoon said success against terrorism had been achieved to a great extent and said the credit belonged to the resilient nation and the brave armed forces who rendered immense sacrifices for the country.

He stressed the need for analyzing the factors that contributed to the rise of extremism and militancy in the country so as to take effective steps to counter it in future.

The President said in the contemporary world, the defence-related matters had become inter-linked with politics, diplomacy, economy and communications and emphasized the importance of defence studies in this context.

He said in the wake of terrorism that took its strong roots over the decades, it was important that the young officers and soldiers of armed forces be trained to counter the modern-day security challenges.

Moscow says it won’t allow US to silence UNSC on Israeli violence against Palestinians Monitoring Desk: Russian envoy in United Nations Vasily Nebenzya said that the UN Security Council should bring peace, stability and prosperity to the Middle East and Russia would not allow United States to silence UNSC over the issue of Gaza crisis. According to TASS news Agency, Nebenzya said that Moscow will continue to call for an end to violence against Palestinians and will not allow the US to muzzle the UN Security Council as Washington seeks to support Israel's operation in Gaza. "We will continue to stand firmly for ending violence against the Palestinians. Without a shadow of a doubt, we will continue to expose the abuses and sanctimony with which the US is handling the situation. We will not allow the Americans to gag the entire council with their hands in an effort to encourage further continuation of Israel's ruthless operation," he said in a speech at the Security Council.
