PakistanGeneral Raheel Sharif to visit Kabul on December 27: ISPR

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif will undertake a day-long visit to Kabul on December 27, according to the Inter Service Public Relations (ISPR).

In a short statement issued on Friday, the ISPR said that the COAS will hold meetings with the political and military leadership of Afghanistan.

The visit comes a few day after Pakistan along with Afghanistan hosted a two-day Heart of Asia Conference in Islamabad.

The fifth ministerial Heart of Asia-Istanbul Process held on December 8-9 ended with ‘The Islamabad Declaration’ at which the participants reaffirmed their commitment to the principles and objectives to promote regional peace and prosperity with collective efforts.

The visiting Afghan President Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai also met the COAS on the sidelines of the Conference in Rawalpindi and held discussion with focus on regional security with particular reference to the security situation and peace process in Afghanistan.

During the meeting, the two dignitaries vowed to work together to eliminate common threat of terrorism.

In addition, a trilateral meeting between Pakistan, Afghanistan and the United States also took place on the sidelines of Heart of Asia conference in which the countries expressed their full commitment to enabling an Afghan-led, Afghan-owned political reconciliation process that promoted a dialogue between Afghan government and groups of Taliban on the future of Afghanistan and the cessation of violence.

The participant countries agreed that a political settlement would be sought in Kabul for long enduring peace in the region.

Moscow says it won’t allow US to silence UNSC on Israeli violence against Palestinians Monitoring Desk: Russian envoy in United Nations Vasily Nebenzya said that the UN Security Council should bring peace, stability and prosperity to the Middle East and Russia would not allow United States to silence UNSC over the issue of Gaza crisis. According to TASS news Agency, Nebenzya said that Moscow will continue to call for an end to violence against Palestinians and will not allow the US to muzzle the UN Security Council as Washington seeks to support Israel's operation in Gaza. "We will continue to stand firmly for ending violence against the Palestinians. Without a shadow of a doubt, we will continue to expose the abuses and sanctimony with which the US is handling the situation. We will not allow the Americans to gag the entire council with their hands in an effort to encourage further continuation of Israel's ruthless operation," he said in a speech at the Security Council.
