ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The polling for the third and final phase of Local Government (LG) elections was held in 12 districts of Punjab and six in Sindh on Saturday.

Voters turned up in large numbers at polling stations to exercise their right of franchise.

According to a news channel, great enthusiasm was witnessed at polling stations where men and women voters queued up to cast their votes.

The polling continued till 5.30 pm.

In Punjab, polling was held in Layyah, Rajanpur, D G Khan, Muzaffargarh, Rawalpindi, Jhang, Khushab, Multan, Sialkot, Narowal, Rahim Yar Khan and Bahawalpur districts.

In Sindh, polling was held in Karachi West, Karachi East, Karachi South, Karachi Central, Korangi and Malir.

The Election Commission had established a control room in Islamabad to receive complaints regarding irregularities in the polling process.

Strict security arrangements were made to maintain law and order and avoid any untoward incident in the districts where polling was taking place.

According to Inspector General of Police Sindh Ghulam Haider Jamali, a force of 35,057 policemen and 7,400 Rangers provided security to polling stations in Karachi.

He said 10 companies of Pak Army were also deployed.

The IG, talking to a news channel said that overall election process in Karachi was peaceful.

He said, he along with his team reached where any complain of any untoward incident was reported.

Haider Jamali said law enforcement agencies were ready to respond any untoward incident.

Meanwhile, there were reports of scuffle in Landhi, Malir, Lyari and other parts of the city. Law enforcement agencies intervened immediately and brought the situation under control.

Chief Election Commissioner Sardar Raza Khan and Secretary Election Commission Babar Yaqoob also visited different polling stations in Rawalpindi on Saturday and witnessed the polling process.

They expressed satisfaction over the arrangements and smooth polling process.
