KARACHI, Pakistan: Sindh government is contemplating to incorporate health education in the school and college level curriculum, said provincial minister for health, Jam Mehtab Hussain Dahar here on Friday.

Chairing a meeting in his office of district level health officers, he said steady surge in the incidence of varied infections, including blood borne ailments demanded public awareness about preventive aspects of the same.

Taking stock of the reports shared by health officers from different parts of the province reflecting increase in the incidence of Hepatitis, HIV, Malaria and so-forth, Jam Mehtab said children and youth must be sensitized about the associated risks.

“We have to inculcate healthy habits among our children and youth so as to avert their exposure to health risks,” he said.

Sindh Health Minister said Pakistan like most other developing countries is exposed to a serious challenge and extreme caution has to be adopted at every level for protection of people against deadly diseases as HIV/AIDS.

He said the fact that Hepatitis B and C persists even in remote areas is a warning that cannot be ignored about vulnerability of people to other blood borne infections.

Sindh Health Minister said the government was fully conscious of its responsibilities and for the purpose testing and treatment facilities for most of the diseases reported to the authorities have been made available at the government facilities.

“This has to be complimented with strong prevention based approach with maximum involvement of the masses,” said Jam Mehtab Hussain Dahar.

He said health education is equally important to prevent water borne diseases that is registered to have hefty toll on public health belonging to both rural and urban areas.
