ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Minister of Education Belarus, Mikhail Zhuravkov on Tuesday said Belarus offered new prospects for Pakistani students which ought to be utilized at any cost.

In a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony held here between the two ministers, Minister of Federal Education Engr Muhammad Baligh Ur Rehman said both the nations are coming further closer in this particular field.

He said the visit of Belarus is a first step towards long term friendship between the two countries, said a news release.

About the education, both the ministers showed keen interest in short term student exchange programmes which would familiarize them with each others’ educational system.

“We need to identify the needs of the students of both countries and then identify the areas in which this exchange programme can be planned”, Engr Baligh Ur Rehman said.

Both ministers further discussed special fee structure for the students in which they would be given discounts to cement bilateral relations.

They viewed that instead of making general agreements, some concrete agreements between the universities of both the countries should also be ensure.

For that they proposed to have a joint vice chancellors conference in which universities will chalk out the details of student exchange in both countries.

They also talked about recognizing each other’s universities’ degrees.

They also agreed upon opening culture centers in which people would be able to learn about cultures and traditions of both countries.

The meeting was attended by Federal Secretary of Education, Additional Secretary, Joint Education Advisor and Chairman Higher Education Commission.
