Health9 rehabilitation centers for disabled people to be established in Punjab

LAHORE, Pakistan: Advisor to Punjab Chief Minister on Health Khawaja Salman Raffique on Saturday said nine rehabilitation centres would be established for disabled people at each divisional headquarters.

Presiding over a meeting at Civil Secretariat to review the plan of establishing rehabilitation centers in Punjab, he said the centres would be established as per the direction of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif.

The centres would be equipped with modern healthcare facilities, he added.

It was informed that a model rehabilitation center was already established in Muzaffargarh which would also be expanded and CHAL Foundation and ICRC would provide cooperation in establishing these rehabilitation centres.

In the first phase, three centres would be established at Rawalpindi, Sargodha and Bahawalpur divisions for which Rs 650 million have been allocated.

It was further informed that 5000 sqft space would be required for each centre. The meeting nominated Additional Secretary Health (Tech) Dr Salman Shahid as focal person for this project.

Secretary Health Jawwad Raffique Malik directed that a master plan should be prepared for the rehabilitation centres so that a uniformity could be ensured in the project.

Khawaja Salman said that keeping in view the prevailing situation, establishment of rehabilitation centres for disables were essential. He said in traffic accidents and terrorist related activities, a lot of people get deprived from their limbs.

Many children also born with limbs-disorders for which, rehabilitation centres were the needed for their rehabilitation.

He said these centres would not only provide artificial limbs to such needy persons but orthopaedic surgery and physiotherapy facilities also be provided.
