ISLAMABAD: The military operation ‘Zarb-e-Azb’ which was launched against the militants a day earlier in the North Waziristan tribal region is going on successfully while at least 120  suspected militants have reportedly been killed so far in the operation.

The Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said that the North Waziristan has been isolated by deploying troops along its border with neighboring agencies and the Federal Administrated Tribal Areas (FATA) regions to block any move of the militants in and out of the Agency.

The troops have cordoned off all militants bases including the town of Mirali and Miranshah.

The announcements are being made for local population to approach designated areas for their orderly and dignified evacuation out of the agency.

The necessary logistics and administrative arrangements for internally displaced persons (IDPs) have been made by the political administration and disaster management agency. The registration points and IDP camps have been set up.

Likewise, surrender points have also been established for those militants who chose to quit violence and give up their arms.

The aerial surveillance of the area is being carried out.

At least 120 suspected militants have been killed in the North Waziristan tribal region during the ‘Zarb-e-Azb’ operation. Earlier, the ISPR quoted to have said that at least 105 militants were killed on Saturday.

At least 15 more suspected militants were killed in the early hours of Monday in the Mirali tehsil of North Waziristan where as several compounds were also destroyed, increasing the death toll to 120.

Nation stands by armed forces: defence minister

The federal minister for defence Khawaja Asif said that the decision of the operation against the militants reflects the wishes of people of the country. He said that the government fully tried to resolve the issue through dialogue.

Khawaja Asif said that the decision of the operation is taken thoughtfully, keeping in view all options. He said that the operation is need of the hour and would continue till complete elimination of the enemies.

The defence minister said that the Pakistani nation is with the armed forces of the country. The minister expressed the confidence that the operation will be a success of our armed forces.
