Government considers lifting ban on YouTube after Eidul Fitr

ISLAMABAD: The federal government is considering lifting the ban imposed on video-sharing website YouTube after Eidul Fitr.

A 12-member committee has been constituted to review the possibility of removing blasphemous content from the website.

Federal Minister for Science and Technology Anusha Rehman said the government wanted to lift the ban on YouTube and steps were being taken in this respect.

Rahman said that all relevant stakeholders would be kept in the loop regarding the matter.

YouTube had been blocked across Pakistan on September 17, 2012 following orders by then Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf after the website refused to filter sacrilegious content in Pakistan.
