NEW YORK: Russian President Vladimir Putin has been named the most powerful person in the world this year, according to the World’s Most Powerful People 2013 list compiled by Forbes.

The list features 72 persons including 17 heads of state, 27 CEOs and chairs of individual companies and 12 ‘entrepreneurs’.

US President Barack Obama clinches the second spot in the list, Chinese President Xi Jinping remains as the third most powerful person, while Pope Francis is at number four.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel remains at fifth as being among just nine women in the list.

Prime Minister David Cameron managed to take eleventh place as the only British person in the list.
