SEOUL, South Korea: The United States and South Korea have launched an annual joint military exercise ‘Ulchi Freedom Guardian’ on Monday and it will last until August 29, the South Korean defence minister said.
On the other hand, North Korea has condemned the maneuvers and said that the military exercise is a practice for invasion. It said that Pyongyang will take every measure to demonstrate its might as long as threats from the US persist.
On Thursday, the North Korean Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of Korea demanded unconditional cancellation of the drill if Seoul is sincere about improving relations.
The committee further said that the military exercise would push the Korean Peninsula to the brink of a war and increase the danger of a nuclear war.
