MANDALAY: A curfew was put in place in the Myanmar’s second largest city of Mandalay to bring the situation under control after sectarian conflict between Buddhists and Muslims left at least two persons dead.

“We do not want the situation getting worse,” the senior Mandalay police office Zaw Min Oo told a foreign news agency.

A Buddhist and a Muslim were killed and 14 people injured after fresh unrest erupted between the two sides on Tuesday evening and continued into Thursday morning.

The reports said that the clashes were sparked by a claim that a Buddhist woman had been raped by one or more Muslim men.
