MOSCOW: Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday that he may contest election for a 4th presidential term in 2018, making it possible for himself to rule the country for about a quarter century and become the nation’s longest-serving leader since Josef Stalin.
“I do not rule it out,” the 60-year-old Putin said, in response to a question on whether he might seek a new term when his current six-year mandate expires, at the International Valday discussion club on Thursday.
