MOSCOW: Russia on Tuesday summoned Poland’s envoy to register a protest and demanded an apology over an attack on the embassy in Warsaw a day ago, accusing that Polish police failed to protect the diplomats from rampaging brutes.
A group of violent Polish nationalist demonstrators on Monday stormed Russian Embassy in Warsaw during an Independence Day march. Police had to use rubber bullets and pepper spray to disperse the crowd who threw firecrackers and bottled at the embassy and set fire to parked cars.
The Russian Foreign Ministry called the incident a gross violation of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, which demands that the host country ensure the safety of diplomatic staff of a foreign embassy.
