Both sides expressed their satisfaction at the positive trajectory and progression of mutual relationship at bilateral and multilateral levels including SCO and the United Nations. They reiterated to continue to work together for further improvement in relationship and to seek enduring peace and stability in the region.

“This is an excellent development. Pakistan are Russia are getting closer and both the countries are concerned about presence of international terrorists in Afghanistan. Both the countries consider rise of Islamic State (Deash) in Afghanistan as threat to regional security and both the countries want a peaceful resolution of Afghan conflict through dialogue among fighting factions. This is first time that Russia and Pakistan are working closely without any bias and without any per-conditions”, said Agha Iqrar Haroon, senior journalist and Development Observer working the regions of Central Asia and eastern Europe.

Haroon believes that there is a space for Pakistan to become a strategic partner of Moscow in the region of South Asia after United States has adopted India as its strategic partner to keep an eye on China waters in Asia. Haroon was of the view that Pakistan needs to redesign its Foreign Policy of Middle East if he (Pakistan) really wishes to stand with Moscow for a longer period. Haroon said that Russia is (was) partnering with Iran and Syria in Middle East while Pakistan is (was) perceptively closer to Saudi Arabia and United States regarding Yemen and Syrian crises. The visit of Saudi King to Moscow did not bring results for pushing Russia and Saudi Arabia closer in Middle eastern politics, claimed Haroon.
