Putin to pay two-day official visit to China on Tuesday

MOSCOW: The Russian President Vladimir Putin will pay a two-day official visit to China on Tuesday at an invitation from his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping.

During his visit to Shanghai, Putin and his Chinese counterpart will sign several deals including a landmark gas deal crucial for Moscow as Europe seeks to cut reliance on Russian oil and gas.

The Russian president will also attend the 4th summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) in Shanghai on Wednesday.

In an interview with the Chinese media released by the Kremlin on Monday, Putin that Russia sees relations with China as a top priority and the cooperation between the two countries has reached their highest level in history.

Putin said that a deal on Russian natural gas exports to China is close to be signed, adding that it would allow Russia to diversify its export routes and let China meet its growing demand for energy.
