Astana, Kazakhstan: President Nursultan Nazarbayev called on the Islamic world to modernize the thinking of people to achieve place in 4th industrial revolution the world is going through.
Addressing at opening ceremony of first OIC Summit on Science and Technologies here on Sunday, President Nursultan Nazarbayev stressed the need of liberal and modern approach towards society so Muslims can place themselves in changing values of the world.
“I believe that Islamic world needs modernization because world is going through 4th industrial revolution and Islamic world should support scientists in their work. We must develop an innovative cluster, which is the basis of economic sustainable development. And Kazakhstan created such a cluster on the basis of the Nazarbayev University. I call on all scientists of Muslim World to work within the framework of such a cluster”, said President Nazarbayev.
Astana is hosting participants of 56 countries including 20 heads of the states in OIC science and technology summit that will continue on Monday.
It may be recalled that Summit on Science and Technologies of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation was initiated by President Nursultan Nazarbayev.
According to schedule, the Asian Inter-Parliamentary Forum for Science, Technologies and Innovations includes seven thematic sessions. On the first day of the Forum, the participants discussed the policy matters for the development of science, technologies and innovations in Muslim world. The agenda includes formation of legislative base for the development of education and science sectors and the role of parliamentarians for implementation of national programs and priorities.
Parliamentarians, governmental officials, researchers and experts from Azerbaijan, Algeria, Bangladesh, Egypt, India, Indonesia, the Comoro Islands, Pakistan, Gambia, Republic of Mali and Kazakhstan on Sunday are sharing their experience with participants for developing science and technology in their respective countries.
During the Forum, the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) will present its research into the best models of regulatory-legal framework and incentive mechanisms in the field of science, technologies and innovations in the OIC member and non-member countries.
A final document – Astana Declaration on “Strengthening Inter-Parliamentary Islamic Cooperation in the field of Science, Technologies and Innovations” will be signed after the two-day Forum.
Islamabad adds:
President Mamnoon Hussain is participating in the Summit as Chairman of the OIC Standing Committee on Science and Technology (COMSTECH), says an official statement issued by the Foreign Office Pakistan here on Sunday.
States says that during his stay in Astana, President Hussain will have a range of bilateral meetings and interactions with several Heads of State and government.
“The occasion will provide opportunities to review bilateral relations and exchange views on regional and international issues of mutual interest. He will also attend an informal meeting of OIC leaders on the situation of Rohingya Muslim Minority proposed by Turkey. The President will also have an interaction with the Pakistani scientists and intelligentsia based in Astana”, added the statement.
In another statement, Foreign Office Pakistan says that President Mamnoon met Turkish President President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on the sidelines of the first OIC Summit on Science and Technology on Sunday.

“President Mamnoon Hussain thanked the Government of Turkey for its consistent support for the Kashmir cause and reiterated Pakistan’s support to Turkey on the Cyprus issue. The two Presidents also exchanged views on regional issues, including Afghanistan and the situation of Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar. The leaders reiterated the strong mutual support and solidarity in the face of terrorist threat posed to the two countries and reiterated their resolve to defeat the scourge of terrorism through resolute action”.
