WASHINGTON: Joe Biden will take oath as the 46th President of the United States in Washington on Wednesday while Kamala Harris will also be sworn in as the Vice President of the Country.
The 56-year-old Kamala Harris will hold the distinction of becoming the first woman to hold the post of Vice President in US history.
Meanwhile, security has been ramped up in Washington and large sections of the City have been closed off.
The Secret Service has taken command of the security plans backed up by some 15,000 National Guard troops in addition to thousands of police officers in the wake of the storming of the US Capitol on January 6.
Washington DC is already under a state of emergency and will remain that way through the inauguration.
Before his inauguration as the 46th President of the United States Joe Biden and the Vice President-elect Kamala Harris attended a Special Service at the Lincoln Memorial with their spouses.
The memorial was conducted in honour of the 400,000 Americans who have lost their lives to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Washington National Cathedral tolled 400 times, for the 400,000 perished due to Coronavirus, and 400 lights were lit around the reflecting pool.
“To heal, we must remember,” the 78-year-old Joe Biden remarked at the Ceremony for Coronavirus victims.
