AsiaJapan`s Olympic champion sentenced to 5 years in prison for rape

TOKYO: A Tokyo court on Friday sentenced two-time Olympic judo champion Masato Uchishiba to five-year imprisonment for raping a student.

The 34-year–old Uchishiba, who coached a women`s judo club at Kyushu University of Nursing and Social Welfare, raped a female member at a Tokyo hotel after drinking in 2011.

Uchishiba was arrested in December 2011 over the rape allegation and barred from all judo activities by the All Japan Judo Federation in January 2012.

He won the gold in the 66-kilogram class at the 2004 Olympics in Athens and at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.
