BAKU, Azerbaijan: The former Soviet republic Azerbaijan in a joint venture with Turkey will manufacture freight cars for the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK), an 826-kilometer railway project linking Turkey, Azerbaijan and Georgia.
Talking to media on Wednesday after his meeting with the Head of Azerbaijan Railways Javid Gurbanov, the Turkish Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Mehmet Cahit Turhan said that a plant will be set up by both the Countries in Azerbaijan to produce freight cars for BTK railway project.
Turhan said that a site has been located for establishing the plant, a report by Azerbaijan State News Agency AZERTAC said.
The Turkish transportation and infrastructure minister said that once the plant is established, the manufacturing of freight cars will begin soon. He said that the BTK railway line is only providing freight shipment services.
Mehmet Cahit Turhan said that passenger transportation will start in the coming years. He said that not only Turkey, Azerbaijan and Georgia will benefit from the railway but other Countries as well.
