6th South Caucasus Security Forum: Conflict Zones and Denial of Truth

World6th South Caucasus Security Forum: Conflict Zones and Denial of Truth

Islamabad, Pakistan: The world regrettably is divided into “Oppressors and Oppressed” and conflict zones are spread all over the world but every conflict is seen in different perspective.

In Kashmir, genocide of Kashmiris in Indian Occupied Kashmir continues but world powers avoid to fix responsibility of genocide on India and advice powerless Kashmiris to decide the issue themselves although UN Security Council resolutions were passed to protect Kashmiris and the Kashmir. However, if the issue links with Russia-Georgia and conflict over South Ossetia and Abkhazia, the world power vocal fix responsibility to Russia.

If the matter relates to Russia-Ukraine current relations, particularly Crimea crisis, world powers are swift to say that Russia must leave occupied areas but if the matter is linked with Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict then world powers are shy to fix responsibility on Armenia for aggression and purging of Azerbaijani people. World powers have Double Standards and different ways to look towards identical situations. The situation was similar in recently held 6th South Caucasus Security Forum where Russia-Georgia and Russia-Ukraine conflicts received widespread attention and were discussed many times but Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict put on back burner. Moreover, almost all speakers blamed Russia for its aggression against Georgia and Ukraine and called Russia as an occupant but in the case with Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the speakers preferred not to call Armenia as an aggressor or occupant.

6th South Caucasus Security Forum was held on May 13-14 in Tbilisi, Georgia and was organized by the Stratpol Strategic Policy Institute, Rondeli Foundation and Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung. The Forum was attended by state representatives of Georgia, experts and researchers from Europe, the USA, Azerbaijan, Iran, Turkey, Armenia and other countries.

When Dispatch News Desk (DND) News Agency contacted Eurasian analyst Anastasia Lavrina, who was one of the participants of the Forum to comment on Forum, she said that the Forum itself is a good regular platform for discussing the most challenging issues of the broader South Caucasus and Black Sea regions but Azerbaijan was denied equal opportunity to place its viewpoint in session dealing with Nagorno-Karabakh Conflict.

She stated that there Azerbaijan was not given place in the list of panelists and there was no one from Azerbaijan in panel of this session while pro-Armenian panelists like Olesya Vartanyan were who supported official Armenian position on Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and the session was moderated by Joshua Kucera, who is known for his tilt towards Armenia.

Lavrina raised several more questions contesting impartiality of Forum and stated that four resolutions of the United Nations Security Council asking for an immediate and unconditional withdrawal of the Armenian Armed Forces from the occupied territory are still ignored by Armenia. It is very pity that despite all of these known factors, such a big and important event as 6th edition of the South Caucasus Security Forum is being used as a platform for propaganda of particular interests, instead of truth.”
