ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal (PBM) has established 157 Women Empowerment Centres (WECs) to make vulnerable girls financially self-sufficient, said official sources.

These schools are providing free training to widows, orphans, poor girls various skills including drafting, cutting, sewing, knitting, hand and machine embroidery.

PBM was working to eliminate forced child labour by imparting skills to vulnerable children.

Great Homes have been established for shelter less senior citizens.

According to an official, PBM has established 35 Pakistan Sweet Homes (PSH) were providing basic amenities to 3,700 vulnerable kids.

The inherent abilities of poor children are being polished in PSHs, he said.

Thalassemia Centre was offering excellent services to vulnerable segment of society irrespective of their color, creed or political affiliation free of charge.

Centre was providing treatment facilities to 20 thalassemia patients per day. PBM has provided financial assistance to 1500 Thalassemia patients in last three years.

Main objective of Centre was to increase life expectancy and improvement in the quality of life for those inflicted by this daunting disease and provide a ray of hope amidst miseries of the children with neglected backgrounds, orphans ad less privileged who cannot afford the cost for the treatment of this serious disease.

Main component of thalassemia treatment is persistent availability of blood. PBM arranging blood donation camps for fulfilling the needs of thalassemia patients.

Quoting to a report, they said approximately 100,000 patients are suffering from Thalassemia in Pakistan and every year 6,000 babies are born with this deadly disease.

The poor, destitute, orphans, widows, invalid and infirm patient is eligible to apply for the treatment from PBM Thalassemia centre. Application is required alongwith a copy of computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) issued by NADRA or its receipt along with a copy of old NIC.
