Maldivian president cancels visit to Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Following the terrorist attack on Karachi airport, the visit of Maldivian President Abdulla Yameen to Pakistan has been postponed for an indefinite period, the media citing officials in the Foreign Office reported on Wednesday.

The Maldivian president was scheduled to pay a three-day official visit to Pakistan from June 11 to hold talks with Pakistani leadership including Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

Yameen was also scheduled to visit Maldivian embassy as well as to meet representatives of various chambers of commerce during his visit.

However, the Maldivian embassy informed the Foreign Office that the president’s visit had been postponed for an indefinite period. Though the embassy did not tell it officially but hinted that the attack at the airport was the reason for cancellation.

On the other hand, the Foreign Office spokesperson Tasneem Aslam said dates for the visit of Maldivian President Abdulla Yameen had yet not been confirmed so the visit was not finalised.
