US, South Korea start largest-ever joint air drill

SEOUL: The United States and South Korea have started their largest-ever joint air drill Max Thunder on Friday.

As many as 103 aircraft and 1,400 personnel of the two countries are taking part in the exercise which will continue till April 25.

“In numerical terms, it’s the largest exercise of its kind that we’ve done,” said a South Korean air force spokesman.

Last time the two countries held Max Thunder drill was in October-November 2013 when 97 aircraft and some 1,000 troops took part in it.

The current maneuvers will concentrate on practical scenarios involving precision assaults and supply drop missions for troops.
