Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ali Amin Gandapur has announced the renaming of Upper South Waziristan as Mehsud Waziristan, fulfilling a long-standing demand of local representatives.
The announcement was made during the annual Talent Award Ceremony organized by the Mehsud Welfare Association, and attended by senior political leaders, government officials, and tribal elders.
In response to resolutions passed by Senator Dost Muhammad Khan Mehsud in the Senate of Pakistan and MPA Asif Khan Mehsud in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, the chief minister approved the renaming of the district and introduced key administrative changes. He declared Upper South Waziristan as Mehsud Waziristan and announced the creation of a new sub-division, increasing the total number to three. Additionally, Ladha, the largest sub-division in the region, will receive an additional administrative sub-division, while Kaniguram has been upgraded to tehsil status.
Focusing on education and welfare, Ali Amin Gandapur announced an annual grant of 20 million rupees for the Mehsud Welfare Association to support education for orphans, rehabilitation of widows, and resettlement of displaced families. He also pledged to revive MAWA Education City to enhance educational and vocational opportunities in the region.
The ceremony was attended by MNA Zubair Wazir, MPAs Ajab Gul and Usman Betani, former MPA Rabistan, and a large number of tribal elders. Mehsud Welfare Association Chairman Rahmat Khan Mehsud and MPA Asif Khan Mehsud also addressed the gathering, highlighting the significance of these initiatives.
Ali Amin Gandapur personally distributed awards to outstanding students and praised the Mehsud community for its contributions to education, governance, and regional development. He reiterated his government’s commitment to fostering progress and stability in the region.
