UNITED NATIONS: UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon has strongly condemned the Sunday’s brutal attack in a church in the restive northwestern Pakistani city of Peshawar that left at least over 80 persons dead, and called on the Pakistani government to bring the perpetrators to justice.

Two suicide bombers wreaked havoc with two consecutive blasts amongst hundreds of innocent Christian worshippers outside an old church in Peshawar on Sunday, killing 81 persons and wounding over 180 others.

In a statement, Martin Nesirky, the spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, said that the secretary-general is appalled by terrorist attack on a Christian church in Peshawar.

“The secretary-general condemns this atrocious bombing attack in the strongest possible terms,” the statement said.

The secretary-general said these acts of terror cannot be justified by any cause, and urged the Pakistani government “to do everything possible to find and bring the perpetrators to justice”.

The statement further said that the secretary-general extends his heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims, the people and Pakistani government.

The UN secretary-general reiterates the solidarity of the United Nations with the government’s ongoing struggle against terrorism and extremism and urges the government to continue taking steps to build tolerance and strengthen relationships between diverse religious and ethnic communities in the country,” the statement added.
