The Dubai Electricity & Water Authority (DEWA) has urged the UAE residents to take all necessary measures to avoid the risk of fire due to misuse of electrical appliances and connections with increasing temperatures in summer.Tip to ensure safe electricity usage in UAE

The following are a few useful tips to avoid electrical risks which may cause damage to individuals and their property;
  • Use original & high-quality electrical appliances
  • Hire services of accredited technicians to carry out installation and maintenance work
  • Carry out regular maintenance work
  • Ensure the safety of connections, extensions, electrical wires & plugs
  • Avoid connecting multiple devices to electrical supply sources, exceeding their capacity
  • Cover wires using proper insulation
  • Ensure that electrical wires do not pass through corridors, doors or windows

How to protect electrical appliances

The following preventive measures to protect electrical appliances;
  • Use heat-producing devices i.e., iron, water boiler or electric oven via the plug directly without using a connection
  • Pay attention to the switched-on electric kettle & put sufficient water during the operation
  • Disconnect the power source when you have finished
  • Place electrical appliances in a visible & well-ventilated area
  • Prevent dust from accumulating on devices
  • Ensure adequate ventilation behind electrical appliances i.e., the refrigerator & the wall
