The Afghan Taliban-backed banned Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (officially called as Khawarjis) has released details of its militant activities in Pakistan during February 2025.
According to the report, TTP carried out a total of 147 attacks, including 53 guerrilla operations, 50 laser attacks, 11 ambushes, and 14 bomb and grenade attacks.
The militant group claims that these attacks resulted in 85 fatalities and 95 injuries, bringing the total number of casualties to 180. The Pakistan Army was the primary target, with 97 casualties, followed by the Frontier Corps (44 personnel) and police and Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) personnel (38 casualties).
A careful analysis of these figures reveals that 98% of the attacks took place in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
The highest number of attacks were recorded in South Waziristan (34 attacks), North Waziristan (27 attacks), and Khyber district (24 attacks). Other affected areas included Tank (12 attacks), Dera Ismail Khan (12), Peshawar (8), Bajaur (6), Bannu (5), Kurram (5), Mohmand (3), Lakki Marwat (3), Karak (2), Swat (1), Dir (1), and Orakzai (1). The report also claims three attacks in South Punjab.
A careful analysis of these figures reveals that 98% of the attacks took place in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with the tribal districts and southern regions of the province bearing the brunt of the violence. Another significant takeaway is that Pakistan’s security forces were the primary target, with the army suffering the highest losses, followed by the Frontier Corps and police.
This report underscores the worsening security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where TTP’s resurgence continues to pose a severe challenge to the region’s stability. The concentration of attacks in tribal districts and southern KP highlights a clear pattern: Pakistan’s security forces remain the group’s primary target, with the province at the epicenter of the ongoing militant insurgency.
