ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Pakistan Tourism Development Cooperation (PTDC) has said that tourism industry is the number one industry in Pakistan which is contributing enormously to increase Country’s gross domestic product (GDP) growth rate.

In an interview with PTV, the Manager at PTDC Publicity and Promotion Department Mukhtar Ali highlighted economic significance of tourism in Pakistan, and said that there is visible economic and cultural progress in the tourism sector and it could be possible due to peaceful atmosphere prevailing in the Country.

Mukhtar Ali also called for making collective efforts for further promotion of tourism in the Country. He urged the promotion of culture tourism with continued collective efforts of the world nations. He said that there is need to enhance sustainability in the tourism sector by encouraging international cooperation and support to upgrade its structure.

The Manager at PTDC Publicity and Promotion Department said that providing low rates shopping items to facilitate foreign and local tourists can be greatly helpful to bring positive changes in its infrastructure.

Mukhtar Ali lauded great enthusiasm which was observed during Pakistan and Qatar’s gathering at Doha on the occasion of World Tourism day celebrations held on September 27, 2017 (Wednesday).

Moreover, he said that similarly a seminar to highlight tourism significance was also held in Pakistan in which the speakers had highlighted the tourism day as a great sustainability day added that a Photo Exhibition was also arranged on the occasion.

Replying to a question, he said that nearly 1200,000 to 1700,000 tourists had visited northern areas, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in 2015 for tourism, leisure, archaeological sites and cultural exchange purposes.

Mukhtar said that there is a complete consensus and cooperation between the centre and provinces with regard to promotion of the tourism industry. He said that different awareness programs have also been launched in all parts of the Country to create awareness through tourists guides who are available at almost all the tourist destinations to facilitate the tourists.
