ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) Managing Director Abdul Ghafoor Wednesday said the PTDC had declared 2017 the ‘year of tourism’ as it would launch projects for the industry’s revival.

The corporation, he said, was committed for the development of tourism sector in the country that was why it was trying to provide maximum facilities at tourist resorts.

Talking to APP, Abdul Ghafoor said a number of projects launched by the PTDC were nearing to completion. The under construction projects in Gwadar, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Balochistan and Sindh would help revive the tourism sector, he added.

He said the projects in Azad Jammu and Kashmir would be completed at the cost of Rs. 25 million, while the tourist facilitation centre in Gilgit-Baltistan would cost Rs 20 million.

The PTDC MD said Pakistan had great potential in tourism. The country was blessed with unique mountain ranges, forests and meadows, rivers and deserts.

He said the number of foreigners including senior citizens, visiting tourist sites in Pakistan was increasing due to special facilities being provided to them in the country.
