ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Managing Director Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) Chaudhry Abdul Ghafoor Khan on Wednesday said Pakistan had a great potential for religious tourism.

Talking to the state-run news agency, he said the PTDC would approach tourism departments of different Countries to promote religious tourism in Pakistan.

Abdul Ghafoor Khan said Uzbekistan and Iran tourism departments had agreed to sign Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the PTDC for promotion of religious tourism.

The managing director PTDC said Punjab province was home to five most important pilgrimage sites for Sikhs which included the birthplace of Baba Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikh religion who was born in 1469 in Nankana Sahib district, and Gurdwara (monastery) Punja Sahib in Hasan Abdal town where the handprint of Guru Nanak was believed to be imprinted on a boulder at the monastery. The two sites were visited by thousands of Sikhs from across the World.

Chaudhry Abdul Ghafoor said there were many holy places of the followers of Hindu and Buddha religions in the Country.
