ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The National Assembly was told that as a result of the restructuring of the Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) and transfer of properties to the provinces, a total of 227 employees were laid off by the PTDC and its subsidiary companies in accordance with labor law/service rules.

The Minister In-charge of the Cabinet Division told the House in writing on Friday that the PTDC is a Public Sector Company established under the Companies Act, 1913 (Now Companies ACT, 2017).

However, after the 18th Constitutional Amendment, the subject of tourism was transferred to provinces and the status of PTDC remained undecided for some time.

It was apprised to the House that the Federal Cabinet on May 4, 2019 decided the retention of PTDC at the federal level, restructuring of PTDC to align its human resource with its new role and responsibility, and directed to handover PTDC properties along with human resource and associated liabilities to the respective provinces.

Accordingly, the PTDC was restructured and a mechanism for the transfer of properties along with human resource-related liabilities to the provinces was approved by the Federal Cabinet on November 9, 2021, which is in process of the implementation.
