BEIJING: Pakistan and China on Friday signed eight agreements to enhance bilateral economic cooperation.

These include establishment of an economic corridor between Pakistan and China‚ laying of fiber optic line between Rawalpindi and Khunjerab at a cost of 440 million dollars‚ construction and establishment of 2000 MW coal power plant‚ and a solar power project in Punjab.

The two sides also signed two Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on exchange and corporation‚ and on eradication of polio.

Before signing of agreements Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his Chinese counterpart Li Keqiang held formal talks at the Great Hall of the People in the Chinese capital on Friday.

During talks, Sharif said his welcome “reminds me of the saying, our friendship is higher than the Himalayas and deeper than the deepest sea in the world, and sweeter than honey”.

Li told him: “I greatly appreciate your great warmth and deep affection for the people of China.”

Earlier‚ the Prime Minister was given warm reception on his arrival at the Great Hall.

Speaking on the occasion‚ Nawaz Sharif said he wants to take the relations with China to new heights for the benefit of the two peoples. He extended an invitation to Mr. Li to visit Pakistan which he accepted.

The Chinese Prime Minister said close and cordial Pak-China relations would have a positive impact on the region.

Chinese Premier Li Keqiang hosted a luncheon in the honor of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif at Great Hall of People in Beijing today.
