RAWALPINDI, Pakistan: The Pakistan army clarified on Friday that the federal government asked the Chief of Army Chief (COAS) General Raheel Sharif to play his facilitative role for resolution of the current political impasse during Thursday’s meeting with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

In a message posted on Twitter, the Director General Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said, “[The] COAS was asked by the Govt to play [a] facilitative role for resolution of current impasse, in yesterday’s meeting, at #PM House.”

Earlier, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and the federal interior minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan claimed while speaking on the floor of the National Assembly that it was Imran Khan and Dr Tahirul Qadri who asked for the mediation by the army in resolving current political crises.
