KABUL, Afghanistan: A suicide blast and heavy gunfire by the Taliban militants took place in the premises of the Afghan Parliament in Kabul on Monday which reportedly left six policemen dead and dozens of civilians injured.

Meanwhile, the spokesman of the Afghan ministry of interior affairs Sediq Sediqqi wrote on his official twitter account that all the seven Taliban attackers were killed while no member of the parliament was hurt in the attack.

Earlier, the Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack and also denied the claim by the Kabul Police Chief Abdul Rahman Rahimi that all six attackers were killed by the security forces.

“Several mujahideen have entered the parliament building, heavy fighting is on going,” the Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid posted on Twitter.

The attack occurred when a session of the parliament was going on. However, according to the Kabul police chief, all lawmakers were safe.

The attack on the lower house of the Afghan Parliament left six policemen dead, according to the official news agency of Afghan government Bakhtar News. While the Afghan health ministry claimed that 25 persons including five women and three children sustained injuries in the Taliban parliament attack.

Pakistan strongly condemns attack on Afghan parliament

Meanwhile, Pakistan strongly condemned the attack on the building of the lower house of the Parliament (Wolesi Jirga) in Kabul.

In a statement, the Foreign Office Spokesperson Qazi Khalilullah said that we commend the role of Afghan security forces in effectively countering this act of terrorism.

“Pakistan condemns terrorism in all its forms and manifestations,” the spokesperson said.

“We reaffirm our resolve to fight terrorism in close coordination with Afghanistan.”

The spokesperson said that Pakistan stands with their Afghan brothers in the common struggle against terrorism.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif also strongly condemned the terrorist attack on the Afghan Parliament.

In a message to the Afghan government, the prime minister said that terrorism is common enemy of both countries and steps are being taken in unison to defeat the nefarious designs of the terrorists.

The prime minister also extended condolences to those injured in this incident.
