The abducted female journalist Zeenat Shahzadi has been recovered from the border areas adjoining Afghanistan, two years after she was abducted from Lahore.
The 26-year-old Zeenat Shahzadi was abducted on August 19, 2015 by unknown armed men when she was traveling by an auto-rickshaw in Lahore.
The BBC Urdu reported on Friday that Zeenat Shahzadi had been recovered on Wednesday night while the Head of Commission of Inquiry on Enforced Disappearances Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal also confirmed the recovery of Zeenat Shahzadi while talking to BBC Urdu.
Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal also said that the tribal elders also played an important role in the recovery of Zeenat Shahzadi.
According to BBC Urdu, some non-state elements and hostile intelligence agencies had abducted the journalist, and from their captivity, she was recovered.
However, no statement has yet been received regarding the recovery of Zeenat Shahzadi from herself or her family.
Prior to her abduction two years ago, Zeenat Shahzadi worked for a local newspaper in Lahore, and was working on a Case pertaining to the disappearance of an Indian Citizen Hamid Ansari who had gone missing in Pakistan from November 2012.
Zeenat Shahzadi was due to appear before the Commission of Inquiry on Enforced Disappearances on August 24, 2015 to give a testimony about Hamid Ansari’s disappearance but was abducted five days earlier.
In March 2016, Zeenat Shahzadi’s heart-broken brother Saddam also committed suicide at the abduction of her sister.
